Putin…bullying, incompetence, and death

Thank you, Mr. Putin...

So here’s an interesting figure. According to an article on the Bloomberg site, Russia just had its deadliest September since World War II.* The reason? Covid. Putin and his government has so botched the country’s response to the pandemic that people are dying in horrific numbers. Specifically, there were over 40 thousand deaths from the virus in September alone.

Okay, how is this possible? Well, frankly, Putin himself, and his minions, are the problem. They didn’t respond quickly when the pandemic began, then rushed onto the market a vaccine which may work, but which seems to be less effective than its competitors from the West, and then they spread anti-vaccine drivel in an attempt to discredit those Western competitors…only to have Russians themselves read that same propaganda and become vaccine resistant.

Once again, I’m struck by a curious fact. Putin, like his populist imitators across the world (including Trump) came to power and have kept it by parading their supposed skills at dealing with some pretended national crisis or another. But, when a real national crisis actually crops up…

They’re pretty helpless.

Do you suppose that, eventually, once enough people die, we will somehow realize that strutting supermen just don’t measure up?
