The Dog, The Bottom, the A**Hole

 


Good afternoon, Governor.


This is old news, of course, but I’ll share the tale. It seems that the actress/singer Bette Midler said something mildly insulting about West Virginia after that state’s Senator (and major dingbat) Joe Manchin refused to support President Biden. That comes under the heading, of course, of “So what?” Celebrities are always saying something mildly insulting about somebody. That’s just S.O.P.


But, then, West Virginia’s governor, Jim Justice, responded by showing his dog’s derrière during his State of the State address and suggesting that Ms. Midler could kiss it.


Honestly, that wigs me out a bit. Sure, Midler was insulting, but she’s a private citizen. Justice is supposed to be the governor of an entire American state. He is supposed to be, you know, dignified and stuff like that. He’s not supposed to be displaying a canine’s anus to the whole wide world. 


Oh, did I mention that Justice is a Republican? You probably guessed that already.


What concerns me about the whole affair is that it seems like American politics, particularly as it is practiced by the GOP, becomes a bit more crude and a bit more gross with every passing day. You wonder where it is going to end.


Or, maybe, we don’t want to know where it will end. Such things should be left to movies like Idiocracy…and books with titles like Decline Of The West.


And in the meanwhile we can pray that everything…er…comes out all right in the end.

The Georgia Guidestones Never Hurt Anybody

Special Note: more details on the origins of the stones have come to the fore. See below for an update. So we learn that the Georgia Guidestones have been destroyed by someone, as yet, unknown. The reality, of course, is that whoever paid for them, was a bit kooky, but clearly he/she/they were no villains. The stones carried what were simply some platitudes of the sort we see all the time on greeting cards. They didn't hurt anyone and did no wrong. Yet, somehow, the Right saw them as unspeakably evil, and used high explosives to destroy them. How on earth is this possible? How is it that the Right has grown so mad, so utterly insane, that it would vent its fury on stone? And thus achieve nothing while endangering others? But, one thing. It is a perfect metaphor for what the Right...and particularly the Christian Right...has become. And the danger it poses to us all. Michael Flynn…Satanist? Naaaw. But let’s giggle anyway.

This is not Michael Flynn... From the department of Cry-Me-A-River, I've recently learned that none other than Michael Flynn (remember him?) has run afoul of the QAnon movement and is accused of being a Lucifer-worshipping Satanist. Wait. What? No. Really.   Flynn was Donald Trump’s National Security Adviser, among other things. Following a wee bit of legal difficulty arising from his being an unregistered foreign agent for God knows who, he got a presidential pardon and set out for a new career as a Trump apologist and general crackpot. This included embracing the QAnon fantasy and cultivating QAnon militants. For a time, he was among the movement’s heroes. But in September 2021, Flynn was a guest at a right wing church in Nebraska. While there, he led the congregation in a very strange prayer which included terms and phrases apparently copied from a weird Christian sect that flourished in the 1990s.
