More Horror For Afghanistan

More Horror

There’s another nightmarish story out of Afghanistan. On Friday morning, at least 47 people were killed and another 70 wounded by yet another suicide bombing at a mosque. Reportedly, the attack came in the city of Kandahar and the mosque in question was Shi’ite. The Islamic State–Khorasan (ISIS-K) has claimed responsibility.

Increasingly, the situation in Afghanistan is looking like a long-term blood bath, and the Taliban does not seem to be able to do a thing about it. For the the rest of the world, then, the question may be not whether it needs to get involved in the country…again…but rather when and how.

The alternative might well be violence that spins out of Afghanistan itself to infect the whole region, and from there, the world.
